About Bill McCoy

Hi gang! I am Bill McCoy, Command Captain and Vice President of Hub Operations- North America East! I live in the Chicago area, exactly 4 miles due south of RW 31C at Midway (KMDW). Amazingly, I have never flown out of or into there...always KORD!! I am a 41 y/o father of 2 and a career Firefighter/Paramedic. In the rare moments that I'm not flying online, working or being a dad and husband, I enjoy wines, single malt scotches, cooking and travel. I've always had an interest in flying, and have tinkered with FS since the early days. It's been a lifelong dream of mine to get my PPL, and there is even a CFI on my Fire Department!! As soon as I sell my beer can collection, I want to go to flight school...even got the one picked out! I received FSX as a Christmas gift, and was blown away by the online ATC, and found a link that talked about Virtual Airlines. Being the anal retentive info geek that I am, I researched over 50 VA's before I settled on Westwind. After initial training I was extremely blessed to be assigned to the Miami Hub, with extremely active and helpful management and pilots. After about a month of flights, I checked out this thing called VATSIM... and was encouraged and helped by my fellow aviators. My wife, like many here, doesn't fully understand what the ruckus is all about. I tried to explain it to her and she just rolled her eyes...until I told her that it was saving her $5000 for flight school. She promptly encouraged me! Folks, if there is one piece of advice I can give, it is this. Take a serious look at getting on Vatsim! It is an INCREDIBLE time...both fun and educational! It really is "As real as it gets".
