    Active Sky X

How many pilots here use the Active Sky X Add-on with FSX ? I used it last night on my flight from Colognn-Bonn back to Heathrow and the weather simulator was real time and made the flying a lil challenging. It had some rain in germany yesterday lol .

The reason i'm asking is because as a new pilot i wanted to know if its ok to use this add on with my flights?

I don't use it myself but I think a lot of pilots do. There is no problem with using any add on you like as long as you fly an appropriate airplane for the flight.

    Re: Active Sky X

I do have Active Sky X, just that I don't use it because it increases Lagg!!  If I can get ahold of a Super Computer then I might go back to using it!

As Mike said; it is fine to use any Add-Ons you like.  If we were not alowed to use Add-Ons then nobody would be able to connect to VATSIM because we wouldn't be alowd to have Squakbox or FSInn!!

    Re: Active Sky X

I use it and love it.  I just completed the P001 Charter Around the World, and started using Active Sky X about 1/3 of the way through.  I had been using FSX's real-time weather, but it didn't do much over large stretches of water or remote locations.  After installing Active Sky X, the weather, sun, and moon were much more realistic, and I didn't notice much of a change in frame rates (my computer is 3-4 years old, with a GeForce 7900 graphics card).

Agree i really notice alot of sticking..... but it does give that Realistic view on the weather. I'm gonna beef up the machine anouther gig of mem to see if it would stop the lagg when it is updating.

    I'll keep u guys informed

I do like the Realistic view of the Weather and the Effects, but I don't think an extra 1GB of RAM will decrease the Lagg if you already have 1GB or more in the Machine. How much RAM do you currently have??

The Graphics Card doesn't create excess memory to Run more than 1 Program, if it did then I think my 8800GTS would handle: FSX, FSInn & Active Sky X perfectly. lol.

I got 1 GB with 512 Saphire PCI-E card and 4400+ Dual core AMD

a nother GB in mem should level out the lagging a lil bit. But then again the lagging could be because of accessing the information from the net. Hmmmmmm

on another note what kinda app is FSInn ??

    Re: Active Sky X

FSInn is used to connect up to VATSIM with FSX & FS2004.  Squakbox is for FS2002 & FS2004 and does the same thing

Once you get onto it you probbably wont go back to Off-Line flying, I am now 100% VATSIM because I can get that extra hint of Realism while flying online with other people and now because I have faster internet speeds I rarely get Disconected!
