    B727-200F No Start solution

    I finally got this aircraft to start. Here is what I did:

    I noticed that there were 2 .air files in the folder; b727.air and b727200A_vl.air.  As installed, the Aircraft.cfg used the  b727200A_vl.air, so I decided to try the b727.air. that one did the trick. I don't know what the differences are, but it works and I can fly the aircraft. Here is what you need to do to make the change.

    Open the Aircraft.cfg file with notepad and change parameter  sim=

    Here is what the first 3 lines should look like:

     [fltsim.0]
    title=WestWind Cargo Boeing B727-200F
    sim=b727

    Save the edited file. The 727 now works like any other aircraft. It loads with the engines running and will start either manually or automatically using CTRL+E

    Well, I must say, that was a last resort.  If that hadn't worked I would have removed that aircraft from my hangar.

    The only tricky component of this aircraft is the throttle response. Those engines take awhile to spool up, so you need to stay ahead of the game when adding more throttle. If you wait until you "need" more throttle, it will be too late! Indifferent

    Another one of our great fleet birds.  I have learned to bring the throttles back to idle and dial in 1800 fpm descent as you come down from enroute altitude.  As you approach 10k transition altitude spool them up to about 50 per cent and then start a gentle transition into the approach.  Alot of pleasure in this airplane.

    Yes the throttle responce is very slugish,that was one of the first things i noticed.But shes still a fun one to fly.

    She's like that in real life too, sluggish throttle response was a characteristic on all the early turbojet engines..........On takeoff the standard procedure is to line up, hold the brakes and advance the throttles up past about 1.4 EPR, and stop for about 3 seconds to let them stabilize.  The purpose behind this was to make sure the surge valves on the engines closed (which is supposed to occur right around 1.35 epr, if a valve didn't close the EPR on that engine would be out of line with the other 2).  A quick scan down the engine instruments for any abnormal indications and then push the throttles up to takeoff EPR while releasing the brakes, and then you wait as the airplane slowly starts down the runway......

    Kudos to Bob for catching this one and getting it squared away.......

    http://www.boeing.com/commercial/727family/ Boeings official 727 site. Shame it comes under the "Out-of-Production models" Sad

    There is a bit of background about it on there and on the far left just under "727" it has got extra links!
