Paradise [ip] Denver Hub Scenery for FS9

I just completed a set of sceneries for the FS9 Denver hub.  The scenery that was available was originally designed for FS2000, then upgraded to 2002 then 2004.  I didn't like it because it was made with overlays that didn't quite blend with the default airport.  Those that already have it installed may want to continue to use it, otherwise I have newly designed Terminal, Training Center, Executive Charter and Cargo scenery packages.  If you have the old scenery installed and wish to upgrade to the new scenery, you will have to delet the old scenery.  The exception is the Maintenance Hangar; that is compatible with this new scenery.  Also, be sure to delete any other Denver AFCAD files. This new scenery comes with a new AFCAD; however, I did not add the runway 34L/16R. The runways and taxiways are FS9 default.   I may tackle that some day, but it is more complicated that simply dropping in a new runway and taxiways. The new files are self installing. You can install any one or all of them.  Go to the Aircraft and Scenery Download page for more details and photos. If you have any issues with the new scenery, please post your concern on the Aircraftand Scenery forum.  Be sure to read the 'readme' file; especially if you don't know how to activate the scenery in FS9.

    Sir,

I installed your new scenery recently on a fresh install of FS9.  I had never loaded FS9 on this computer so when I say fresh....I mean fresh LOL.  Anyway normally I can run all the sliders to the right and still get around 20 FPS at most airports in the terminal area IE on approach at what not.  But with your scenery I drop to 5 FPS.  Is there something I can do to help this situation out.  Besides deleting the scenery.  I really like your scenery it looks really good.  Thanx in advance for any info you may have on this issue.

What was your FPS when landing at Denver before adding the scenery?  The new FS9 scenery should not have that much affect on the FPS.  I have never noticed a significance difference on my computer and have not heard of this problem from anyone else.  Go into the FS9 scenery library and uncheck the Denver scenery, then fly an approach to see if the FPS changes.  Also, do you have the Denver Maintenance hangar scenery installed?  That one alone could be doing it.

OK I will uncheck the scenery and shoot an approach and get back with you.  I do know that if I lower the slider enough that it "turns the buildings off" the FPS jumps back up to normal, say anywhere from 15 to 30.  I soon as I "turn them back on" with the slider they drop to around 5ish.  The only two I have installed are the executive scenery and the training scenery.

I will get back to you on those other numbers.

Ok heres the numbers I come up with

I didnt actually check my sliders but they were exactly the same for each test

I took off from Topeka KS and headed to DEN

35 fps without clouds at alt (I have it locked at 35)
    25 with clouds at alt

13-28 on appr w/o KDEN scn clouds few at 6,0000ft no lower than 13 while txi

6.5 - 13 on appr w/ KDEN scn same clouds 4-7 while the buildings are in view on txi around 15 without the buildings in view

BTW I loaded the executive scenery at my HUB DFW and the same effects there as well

Re: Denver Hub Scenery for FS9

I did a flight from Colorado Springs to Denver.  On approach at the point where all Denver buildings are in sight I'm at 20 FPS (Locked at 20 FPS) with WestWind Scenery removed, and With ALL WestWind Scenery Installed I drop to 11 at that same point on approach.  for me that is an acceptable level.  That is lowest on this flight.  My AI traffic is set at 100%, so depending on the AI traffic level, I have dropped as low as 8 or 9.  There is nothing I can do about the FPS hit with this scenery, other than possibly using default FS9 buildings.  All scenery objects that I am using are designed for FS9.  The default buildings have less detail and lower resolution.  The only thing you can do is play around with your graphics settings and compromise in some other area of less importance, or remove the WestWind scenery.  I'm sorry that it does not work out for you; but there is no way to make scenery using existing scenery objects that will not affect FPS.  Also, since every computer is different, it's not possible to make scenery run well on every machine.   Thanks for your feedback.  It will help me when doing future sceneries.

No....Thank you for your contribution to this airline.  It is great scenery and I will just have to suffer through the hit.  It is just strange its such a large hit for me.

    Thanx again

Re: Denver Hub Scenery for FS9

Have you tried locking you FPS at 20?  That is a recommended value since you won't see any visual difference at FPS greater than 20.  That frees up more resources.  When I get some free time, I'll try replacing one of the buildings in the scenery. I know that particular building has a high parts count.  If it improves the FPS, I'll update the scenery file and post a notice.

No I've never tried that.  I heard 35 was the magic number.  I will try 20.

Re: Denver Hub Scenery for FS9

    Consider this:

"Twenty-four frames per second is a fixed, unchanging constant in the USA for motion picture film. One second of real time = 24 frames per second, or 24 FPS. This holds true for all standard professional film formats in the U.S. (with the exception of videotape at 29.97 a.k.a. 30 FPS) including 16mm and 35mm film."

If you drop down to 20, you are not likely to even notice the 4FPS difference.

Re: Denver Hub Scenery for FS9

I found another variable.  This week I flew into Denver again and when everything came into view on the approach I was getting 12-15 FPS...wayyy better!!  So I was trying to figure out what I had done to fix my issue.  Alas to no avail.  I couldnt figure out what was different between that flight and the others.  Well lo and behold today I hop into my jet for departure out of LAS and I just happen to click on my FPS just for fun and logged into FSINN and what happens?  24FPS(I took your advice) drops all the way to 11FPS statically.  No engines running just sitting in the cockpit.  So now I know where the big hit is.  At altitude Im fine but when Im on the ground FSINN cuts my FPS in half.  I'm currently inflight but my next test is going to be to download SB3 and try that and see if it helps my FPS hit.  I will let you know.

There is no Frame rate hit when I load up SB3 so that might be your issue.  If you have a problem let me know.

Re: Denver Hub Scenery for FS9

OK SB3 seems to have somewhat fixed my issue.  The FPS hit with SB3 is only half as bad as with FSINN.  But.....man there is a huge difference in the way the wx is interpreted with SB3.  38,000 ft NC to TX and the highest wind I saw at altitude was 3 kts.  Sorry Im not buying it.  I looked up the wind chart and I should have been gettng about 60kts in the face.  Maybe there is a setting or something I dont have just right.  I will have to go through the user manual and see what I can come up with.  But the FPS issue is now partially resolved.
