Might be there late unless my Boss calls me for one of his 2hr chats about the IT department (again)!!

Well it may appear that in fact I wont be at the May 3rd fly-in because apparently my partner had other plans... so in other words I've got to be dragged around our Town Center like always Sad

    Hi all,

I plan on flying this from LAX to Salt Lake City. I downlowded the required navigation files and noticed something. The Jammn4 STAR doesn't have any vertical navigation information on either page one or two. Am I missing something here??? First STAR chart I've ever noticed this on???

    A valid and interesting point!

Looking at the other STARS used approaching from the South, it appears that you should cross the point (JAMMN in this case) at 11,000 ft and 230 knots.  In the absence of ATC, that would be my plan!

Any RW Pilots wanna check in on this one?

11,000 and 230knots looks like a good plan.  I use that 11k on the approach in from the Northeast as well because that approach also does not post altitude.  Note the high MEAs on the chart too by the way.

I wont be attending this one, I will be at the beach this weekend, hopefully I will be able to participate in the East Coast Fly in whenever that may be.

    Re: OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: West-Coast Fly-in, May 3, 2300Z-0200Z -- KLAX/KSLC

I am able to fly a short flight out of KSLC or KLAX and probably will take off around 2100Z.

To help out newer pilots on Vatsim, one of the keys to successful and fun flights on Vatsim is to anticipate the controller’s instructions. Prepare yourself. “What is the next logical move my aircraft should perform at this point in my flight?” I have paper and pen ready to copy instructions for easy read back and reference. You will learn the basics of controllers' instructions after a few flights.

We have a number of WWA pilots who are controllers. Go to the following thread to see who they are and where they control.

    WWA ATC Controllers "On-Line"    http://flywestwind.com/communityserver/forums/thread/11374.aspx

I’d recommend flying in their airspace a few times before tackling busier ARTCCs.

Have the charts at hand. SIDS = Standard Instrument Departures, STARS = Standard Terminal Arrivals, Airport Diagrams, runway approaches are available on line to look at, print out, or download to save in a folder.  Go to:

    http://www.airnav.com/airports/

http://www.myairplane.com/index.php     Click on NACO Approach Plates

At least once a year, I buy My Airplane’s Terminal Procedure Publications (Charts) DVD. There are twelve published during a year.

    Have fun.

From all of us here in the North America West Region...

Thanks for participating in our first of many Fly-ins!  I got a late start, but saw at least 4-5 Pilots, and SLC_CTR was staffed by our own Gary Hall!  Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did!Travel

Sounds like this was a success. Huge thanks to everyone who showed up.. and again, apologies for not being able to myself. My perfect time for flying is when everyone is sleeping. I work every weekend. But... Glad to see things worked. We'll rotate to the East Coast now... Kevin -- your turn to get something set up. Then we'll take it again.. and I would encourage the non-American hubs to try and set something up as well, as I know we have many pilots who live in different time zones and are sleeping or at work when we're online.

Thanks to Mike Bergman and Mike Finn for getting staffing set up, and Bill McCoy, just for being Bill McCoy.

Again.. thanks for making this work, everyone. Truly appreciated.

Seems like everybody had a great time! I would have been there except for the fact I was stuck at a "Wedding Party" (formally known as Bridal Shower) with my buddy and the rest of his groomsmen. Hopefully those pilots who are on the fence about VATSIM can join everyone next time in a friendly environment and add a new level of realism to their virtual skies!

I would simply like to add my thanks to everyone who participated in today's Fly-in. I know I had a lot of fun and learned a few things myself. Special thanks to those that provided ATC for the various sections of the event and to Mitch for lighting a fire under us to get this thing started. Looking forward to the East Coast event.

Thanks again to everyone... it was a great event!

Thanks all for flying into and out of SLC.  I hope you had a great time and also noticed that we have some of the best flying conditions in the USA.  Mountains, cross winds and at some times sweat producing approaches.  You were all great and I hope the control was professional and courteous.
