As to Max's point about Wrigley Field being around since 1916...

I do believe Wrigley was named for Wrigley Chewing Gum back then...making them one of the first sell outs... Wink

Oh and after the 22 inning game last night up here...us Rockies fans are a bit tired today...

    Re: MLB Fan Thread

    yes, that true...

But, Wrigley feild is alot better than 'Minute Maid Park' or 'Us Cellular Feild' even though it was the first name to sellout, at least it isn't changed every ten years or so. Also, Wrigley feild is stuningley timeless.

    Re: MLB Fan Thread

Actually iirc the Cubs were owned by Wrigley back then too......anyway Fenway Park opened in 1912 and it too is timeless....I remember watching the Cubs on WGN when I was 7 or 8 years old, I had no clue about baseball back then......I was a little bit saddened when they put lights up at Wrigley......

    Re: MLB Fan Thread

That's quite true...Wrigley did own the team and hence the new field was named Wrigley (though I think there was a few years were it was actually called "Cub Stadium" or some such but then went back to Wrigley).

And yea...though it dates us a bit...I played hooky in Jr. High myself (because they had to have afternoon games at Wrigley) to sneak down to the sports bar and watch that World Series with the Cubs (we were all Cubs fans because of WGN and cable tv back then).  The day they added the lights for that was a sad day indeed...

So no I guess I can't say much about corporate ballparks here in Coors Field :) but I must say it was awesome to have the playoffs and World Series in Denver last year...!

    Re: MLB Fan Thread

Oh, God.. we have a Yankees fan. Can someone fire Glenn? ;-)

Ah well.. A-Rod will go on the DL, Hank and Cashman will choke each other out on national TV while Hank's papa sits in his office and foams at the mouth, Joba will have his season ended by excessive mosquito bites, the Yankees will miss the playoffs, and all will be right with the world.

    I can dream, right?
