Re: Yes, but can you fly that thing?
Short field takeoff in a fully loaded 777-300 at ENOL RWY 33 with a 11 kt tailwind on takeoff. RWW per Phil's suggestion.
Can anyone give a general idea of what the short field takeoff procedure should be for a heavy? I use the same one I use for a Cessna. Full throttle until max power is developed, one extra notch of flaps. Does that sound right or will full throttle skid it across the runway with the brakes on?

Ok, but then people will have to give the wind and pressure settings to keep it honest.

How about a flight from Denver to Aspen with an approach to minimums at Aspen in whatever airplane you are comfortable?

I also did it in a Boeing 717 at MGTOW, it was a little more interesting than in a Lear......but I made it out, why they would put the airport there I have no idea.....
I can see it now. Next time you go to work, one of your ecology-minded customers will want to fly to that airport for some reason....

How certain were you that you would make it out?
I made a RW landing in a C172 at a 3500 ft (I think) strip in Arkansas with TALL trees on both ends of the RW. I did it by the book, got in and out OK, but after thinking about it, I decided I didn't want to go back in there. It is just a little too tight. Slip up just a little and one could find oneself sitting in the tops of those trees. Why they wouldn' t cut those trees I have no idea.

Re: Yes, but can you fly that thing?
Well I made it out in the 717 and shortly thereafter I was cruising past the airport at 4000 feet contemplating if I could land that sucker back in there or not. Having dinged up my fair share of airplanes around here I decided not to tempt fate twice in one day though......

Re: Yes, but can you fly that thing?
I took off from MHTE in the L45 with RW WX (not that it made much diffrence) Then just to see if I could do it, I did the same take off in a C-141 Starlifter.

Cool. I assume that means you were successful on all attempts and that it was FS9 and not FSX. (MHTE is a completely different airport in FSX.). Were you able to get back in?

I fly FSX, What is it that other Captain says? "the best there is." I honestly didn't try to get back in. I'm reasonably sure I could get the L45 back in, but I don't think I know enough about the C141 to get it back in there.

If you were in FSX, there is no challenge to it. In FS9, the aiport is in a big hole and is a lot more challenging. I think it is because FSX is able to map the surrounding terrain a lot better than FS9 was.

PhilCohen:That is going to take the fun out of it. I say if you have the access make it RW weather!! You wouldn't turn the weather off if you were trying for a game winning FG would you? Unless of course you were in Det, Minn, Indy, or New Orleans.
Hey Phil you forgot about Atlanta

Re: Yes, but can you fly that thing?
I got one for you all. Get a Cessna 208 caravan, not the amphibian version, into PAWR and back out. Just did it the other day. Pretty much the airport is at the end of a valley in Alaska for the town of whiter. However, the catch is the runway is only 1400ft long and there is no chance for a go around.
