Found a nice turbo baron, any chance of adding to the fleet of FS9?

I cant remember where i found it, but i still have the zip folder, and it has the authors e-mail in a readme.txt file.  Do you have somewhere i can upload?

I hate to say it but no new FS9 aircraft at this point, the hangar is plenty big in FS9 already (and a big pain in the you know what to manage......)......

yeah it is already preaty big, but it never hurts to ask.  if anyone would like it otherwise, shoot me a msg, and i'll e-mail it to ya!  All it is is the MSFS baron with the CFG file re-worked, and "Turbo" logos added.  But it is just so damn fast at altitude.

Put it in the FSX Hangar. We're short of planes there! I don't mean to give you more work, but I think it would be appreciated by us FSX pilots!

If it's the FS9 aircraft I'm not sure how well it would work in FSX......and I think you guys may have gotten spoiled fleet wise with how big the FS9 hangar is.......

We decided early on that the FSX fleet would not be brought up to the same level of aircraft as the FS9 fleet.  FS9 had good number of years running, unlike FSX which has been plagued with bugs, and to my understanding will be replaced fairly soon with a newer version.  I know for sure that FSX is no longer supported, in terms of patches to fix the remaining bugs. Because FS9 was around for so long and since it was basically derived from FS2000, there were a lot of developers supporting it, and many still do. Not much has been done for FSX because of the need to build aircraft specifically for FSX, rather than simply bringing them over from FS2004/FS2000. We do not have aircraft designers within our organization. We only repaint and occasionally tweak. Unlike with FS9, it is a lot more work to get an FS9 aircraft operational for FSX. A good example is the problem we had with the B727-200F  http://flywestwind.com/communityserver/forums/thread/14457.aspx
Another example is all the work and time that went into bringing the Gulfstream 550 into the fleet.  Ken G. and Mike Gibbs  spend a lot of hours working on that one. Unfortunately most of our pilots don't understand the amount of time that goes into providing aircraft (and scenery). We have two aircraft guys (plus Ken G. on occasion) and two scenery guys. We  do this as a hobby, which means we have other real world obligations, such as jobs, families, golfing, fishing, hunting, gardening, etc. etc.

All this doesn't mean you can't ask...you just need to understand why your request may be turned down.

Microsoft stopped "supporting" FS9 then even faster than they stopped "supporting" FSX... there are still a number of unresolved bugs in FS9.. one that I noticed immediately upon first getting FS9 was that the TAS calibration knob in the baron works exactly the opposite of the way it should.. I don't think they fixed that for FSX either.

At any rate - the aircraft.cfg fix to make the Baron into a turbo baron has been around a while, and the same changes that you make to the FS9 aircraft.cfg will work in FSX (don't copy the .cfg file, but make the same CHANGES to it and you're good)..

There's also a pressurized version of the Baron although I don't know that they've made any recently.  There was also a "special" edition of the BE56 Baron from.. back in the 1960s I think? that had something like 350-375hp per engine and was a limited edition.. (turbocharged of course).. would like to get my hands on one of those.  IIRC there was a FS2000/FS2002 model of it but I don't know that it ever got ported up to FS9/FSX.

Here's a thought on this.  How about if we post up the changes you would need to make to convert to a turbo baron.  Then those that want to go ahead and do it can, and we don't have to jump through all the hoops of uploading a new aircraft........

I'll see if I can dig it out.. if I remember right it's only a few changes.. you have to tell it that it's turbocharged, set the max MP, set the critical altitude, and add some weight..
